i ahve a standard stereo with a factory fitted 5 extra cd slots underneath (ill upload a picture when i get home) does anyone know if i changed the head unit would i still be able to use these extra cd slots

Almost certainly not unless the HU has a CD input. Then, you'll probably need an adaptor as well.

When my changer packed up I got a new HU with SD slot - 2Gb holds far more songs as mp3 than a 5 CD ever did.
